Why doesn't my company name show up on cell phones?
Even if your phone number has a Caller ID Name (CNAM) registered, cell phones often don't display it — and this is not something your phone service provider controls.
Your caller name is sent with every call, but mobile carriers typically discard it. Instead, the name displayed on a cell phone is determined in this order:
- The recipient's contact list — If your number is saved in their phone, that saved name is what they'll see, every time, regardless of what caller name is registered.
- The carrier's own database lookup — If the number isn't in their contacts, the mobile carrier may query their own caller name database. Depending on the carrier, this may return your registered name, a generic location like "Dallas, TX," or nothing at all.
- Just the number — If no match is found, the phone simply displays the number.
This is simply how the mobile phone network works — the name displayed on a cell phone is determined by the recipient's carrier and device, not by the caller or their phone provider.
